How to Add Lights to Bike Rack With Cover Blocking Vehicle Lights
Updated 07/08/2024 | Published 06/28/2024 >
Question:
Looking to attach tail lights to the cover of a bike rack for the cover hides the tail lights of car. The cover also covers the entire rack and since remove the cover would be difficult to ground anywhere except the car. I see that you carry led tail lights that have 3 prong. The question I have is that I will need ground the lights by plugging into the 4 pin flat plug on the car rather than the bike rack. Will this work? There is a product from a Zealinch company that has this configuration but I cannot see where they are grounding except through the plug.

Hi Allen; based on the picture you sent the Zeal light kit you were looking at doesn't require an additional ground wire. All you have to do is mount the lights somewhere and plug it into the 4-way.
Also, I wouldn't try to rig up something with regular trailer lights. You will either have to run a ground wire or mount it directly to the bike rack if it grounds through the mounting hardware. On top of that you have to splice together a 4-way wiring harness to connect them to the vehicle. Either way it will be more difficult than it needs to be.
We don't carry that Zeal kit but the Curt Auxiliary LED Indicator Lights # C53201 would serve the same purpose. You can attach these anywhere and you don't have to run an extra ground wire to install them. Simply plug them into your vehicle 4-way and they will light up with your brake, turn, and running lights just like a trailer tail light,
