Can The Kuat Pivot 2 # PVP20B Be Used On A Class II Trailer Hitch Receiver

Question:
I'm looking at getting a Kuat fold away extension for my bike rack. It requires 2" hitch as do other fold away bike racks. The Kuat specifies class 3, others say nothing other than 2" hitch. Can I use the EcoHitch 306-X7303 anyway? Can I use other fold aways that don't specify a class? I am going to be under the 300 lb limit for the rack + bikes on the EcoHitch. Probably about 200lb total with 2 ebikes and rack+. I have a Mazda 3, 2016 Touring.

Hey Eric,
Using the Kuat Pivot 2 # PVP20B with the class 2 EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7303 would go against the manufacturer's intended use and would void your warranty, with the possibility of the adapter failing while you're out on the road.
The Yakima BackSwing Swing Away Hitch Extender # Y02483 doesn't list a class rating requirement, but as with any adapter using this will reduce the capacity of the trailer hitch by 50% so you might run into some issues with the amount of weight you're trying to haul.

Thanks for the info! Looks like I'll have to go without the extender. Hitch has 300lb max but take that down to 150 and counting the extender, rack, and 2 bikes I'm over and out. No need to reply. Good to know about the 50% weight loss.
