Can You Go From ST215/75R14 to 205/75R14 Load Range D Tires & Aluminum Rim on Camper Trailer

Updated 06/17/2024 | Published 06/09/2024

Question:

I have 2023 Coleman Lantern lt 17b and it came with ST215/75R14 with load rating D tires on steel rims. I keep hearing that everyone says we should switch these out since they are China bombs. I like the aluminum rims you have on your site but they seem to only come in 205/75R14 on load rating D. Will that make much of a difference if Im changing both tires on single axle plus would I be able to keep older rim and tire as a spare or would I have to buy 3 new tires and rims to have a spare.

Hey Daniel,

You definitely need to have all the same size tires on your trailer, but you can go from ST215/75R14 to 205/75R14 load range D tires as they they will have the same 2,200 lb capacity, and the 205/75R14 tire will be a bit smaller so there will be room in your wheel wells for them.

It is important to have all your tires the same size so you do need to get three tires/rims for your trailer (including the spare). For a 205/75R14 load range D tire and aluminum rim combo you can go with one of the following, and just choose the style you like the best:

- Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Tire w 14" Liger Aluminum Wheel # WST57FR

- Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Tire w 14" Condor Aluminum Wheel # LH37VR

- Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Tire w 14" Margay Aluminum Wheel # LH74VR
