Problems With Curt Echo And Brake Controller Recommendation For A 2022 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum

Updated 06/07/2024 | Published 06/01/2024

Question:

Hello etrailer team ! I have a 2022 Pathfinder Platinum with the OEM tow package, using the Curt Echo. The braking is uneven and the wheels block, the brakes are surging and I have an error message to check the trailer wiring. The trailer is a brand new travel trailer, and the problem is showing randomly. Alle the connections look good but there a bit of wiggle room 1-8” in the 7 pin connector. There is no corrosion. Please help me !! I am also considering a hard wired controller. What would you recommend that can be plug and play? Thanks so much !

Hello Hugues, thanks for reaching out. Generally, with the Curt Echo wireless controller, the error codes it throws are pretty accurate. A bit of play at the trailer connector could explain the intermittent issues you are having. Since the trailer is brand new it is hard to believe that a wiring issue would be the cause, unless it came off the lot that way. Sometimes the contacts in the vehicle trailer connector can become loose- same on the trailer side. The only real way to fix this would be to replace the connectors. It also may be worth getting ahold of Curt to see if this is a warranty issue. The Curt Echo is a cool piece of technology, but we do hear of folks having problems with them sometimes.

If you want to go with an in-cab controller, I recommend the Curt TriFlex NEXT # C24VV. You can use the Curt Custom Wiring Adapter # C51382 for a plug-and-play install. The TriFlex is a solid controller. It has an LED display and all of the controls are accessible and easy to use.
