Hey Richard,

If you're still searching for a trailer hitch to install on your Explorer then I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76320. This hitch has a higher class rating than other compatible options for a higher tongue weight capacity, while still being priced competitively. The installation of this hitch does require trimming of the heat shields, but is still super easy to accomplish. If you'd like some help I've attached a video below where Dave will walk you through the installation process step-by-step.

If you plan on towing a trailer after installing your hitch then I recommend also picking up the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56093. This wire harness will transfer you light signals over to the trailer so others can see them.
