Question:

I have a 1996 Ford E350 TOGA Motorhome that I am trying to install a Brake controller for 2 axle brake trailer you do not have this vehicle in your model listing so I dont know what to . I will be starting from scratch because I dont see a controller connection under the dash. What do I need to purchase?

Hey Tommie,

Brake controllers are a pretty universal fit so we'll still have what you need even though your vehicle isn't in our Fitguide. With a Ford E-350 cab and chassis you should be able to use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C55344 to get a 4-way connector for your lights. This wire harness plugs inline with the factory tail light wiring.

From there you'll need to install the # ETBC7 to get a 7-way socket on the back of your motorhome. This plugs into the 4-way for the lines and will have a few more wires to run, including one to the battery and one up to the cab for the brake controller.

From there you'll need a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This will come with a universal wire harness that you'll need to to run to 12v power with an inline fuse (included in the # ETBC7 kit), ground, the brake output pin on the 7-way, and to the brake light switch wire. You'll need to test the wires coming off of the brake pedal to see which wire has power only when the brake pedal is being depressed. Ford typically uses a purple and white striped wire for the cold side of the brake light switch so I recommend looking for this wire first.

This is going to be a time consuming process but isn't overly technical so you could weekend warrior this and save yourself on the install.
