Is There Demco Surge Coupler that Can be Used with Drum Brakes

Updated 04/11/2024 | Published 04/10/2024

Question:

Will this work on drums breaks, duel axels? Also can this hitch be locked to the 2inch ball? Thank you

Hey Al, so we have a solution but since disc brakes require a higher PSI than drum the # DM62VR would not work on drum brakes. Instead you'd want to go with the part # DM72VR which is basically the exact same thing but made for drum brakes.

You can lock this to a hitch ball with the coupler lock like the etrailer # e98888.

Thank you, great info… this hitch doesn’t have reverse lockout. Is there one like this one that does have reverse lockout? Thank you, Al

@Al The Dexter DX7.5L part # DX87FR is a similar drum brake actuator that has a manual lock out. Drum brake actuators don't commonly have lock outs since you can install free-backing brake assemblies that serves the same purpose. For example, for 3,500 lb trailer axles the brake assembly set part # AKFBBRK-35-D is a free-backing plate set.
