Upgrading the 5.3 X 12 Wheels and Tires on a Harbor Freight Haul-Master Super Duty Folding Trailer

Updated 08/18/2025 | Published 11/26/2023

Question:

I have a Harbor Freight Haul-Master Super Duty Folding Trailer with 5.3 x 12 inch tires and a 1720 lb. tow rating. Will the Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12inch White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D Item # AM30859 work on this trailer? The pilot diameter is different. The Harbor Freight trailer has something like 2.625 and the AM30859 has a 3.19. Everything else in the specifications seems to match. I just want to know before I order. If not, do you have a wheel/tire combination that will work in load range D?

Expert Reply:

The Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" White Wheel # AM30859 will fit your Harbor Freight trailer as long as it uses the same 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. The larger pilot hole diameter is not a problem since the wheels are lug centric and center themselves on the wheel studs rather than the pilot hole.

Do you need wheel spacers for this updated tires?

@Mark You will not need spacers to go to a different size wheel. As long as the bolt pattern matches and you have enough clearance (3" from top of tire to bottom of fender and at least 1-1/2" from the sidewall of the tire to the sidewall of the fender/frame), you are good to go. Are you also upgrading a Harbor Freight trailer?

@LazerS No , I am building a teardrop trailer on top of the 1720 HB trailer but I want to be able to ride it on HWay speeds.
