Weight Distribution & Trailer Brake Controller For Towing 2021 GD XLS 22RBE w/2002 Silverado 1500
Question:
I just bought a 2002 Chevy Silverado 5.3 with tow package. The plate on the hitch states 5,000 lb weight carrying and 12,000 lb weight distribution. I’m looking at buying a 2021 grand designs XLS with distribution hitch, it’s specs are UVW 5,125 and GVWR at 6,995. Does this all sound good to go with a trailer brake?

Yes, you will be okay to tow the 2021 Grand Design XLS 22RBE with your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L and tow package. The lowest towing capacity according to your owners manual for any 1500 with the 5.3L is 7,000lbs. I recommend using the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET to tow your Grand Design. This weight distribution system has earned a reputation of being one of the best systems available. It is made in the USA with a lifetime warranty and fits trailers up to 10,000lbs with 600-1,000lbs of tongue weight.
For a brake controller the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED63RR is a great option. This controller has a small dash mounted controller which can be mounted where it is easily accessible and out of the way. The main controller mounts behind the dash where it is hidden unlike others that mount on your dash and can get in the way. To connect this the Pigtail # 3025-P allows for a plug and play installation on your Silverado.
