Question:
Hello, I have the EQ37100ET WD hitch for my 2020 Toyota Tacoma. We pull a 28foot Airstream Travel trailer with a tongue weight of 800 LBS according to Airstream. We have pulled the trailer recently and the truck sits well, and the ride was great. However, we noticed when we turn there is a very loud squealing from the friction of the spring bars on the L Brackets. I understand the friction is required for sway control function but Im not sure how much noise is expected. Is this normal? Any recommendations? Also, the spring bar sockets are very tight in the hitch head when trying to swivel them out. I can get them to swivel but it takes a bit of strength. Is this normal too? Other than that the hitch works great!

While the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET does make a lot of noise they do offer some products to help keep the noise down. First you want to use the Equal-i-zer High-Performance Lubricant # EQ91-00-4250 on the lubrication points seen in the image below. Lube should also be used on the hitch ball to allow the coupler to more easily slide on the ball. Cleaning and lubricating the sockets for the spring bars regularly will help to improve them swiveling out when you need to remove the trailer as well as reducing some of the noise from the hitch.
Equal-i-zer also makes the Sway Bracket Jackets # EQ95-01-5150 you can try on the L-brackets if you want to quiet the hitch even more. These are made of nylon to allow the bars to more easily and quietly glide on the bars. Do note that they will likely reduce the effectiveness of the sway control and it might not be best to use them in areas with high winds.
