Does a Cell Phone Have to Be Activated to Use the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller?
Published 04/29/2023 >
Question:
Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller - 7-Way Plug Mount w/ Bluetooth App - 1 to 2 Axle - Proportional. Hi I am assuming I could just use an old iPhone 7 with Bluetooth capability and have it dedicated for use with the Curt Echo Wireless. Once it was properly set up I could put the phone in the console connected via USB and also use the available override button. Does that sound correct? That way I could keep my newer phone for calls, nav, music, etc. Please let me know your thoughts. I plan to use this setup on a new 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L with trailer tow package. Thank you! My trailer has GVWR of about 5Klbs and dry of 4Klbs, two axle.

Yes, you have assumed correctly. The Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller item # C51180 connects to your device using Bluetooth so your iPhone 7 does not have to be activated. You may need to take it inside and connect to wireless periodically to make sure you have the latest update.
