Question:
Whats the best way to transport four pair of skis and four backpacking backpacks in/on a 2022 Hyundai Kona? One or two backpacks could go in the trunk, is there a roof box that would fit four pair skis and two or three backpacks? Could some skis be mounted on the bars next to a box?

I have several options for you to store and haul your gear on a 2022 Hyundai Kona but I won't be able to say for sure that you can fit this much stuff in any one box or basket as the size of the stuff is obviously going to vary from person to person. I also don't really like the idea of mixing skis and other luggage inside the same box as the risk for damage is much higher. It can be rather cumbersome to load and unload gear off the roof of the vehicle each time so I recommend looking into hitch mounted racks and carriers.
In order to use these you'd first need a hitch and for this I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # DT52GR. I then recommend pairing this with the Yakima EXO Swing Away Ski and Snowboard Carrier part # Y94ZR. This is a very unique setup in that it will allow you to carry everything you need, and more if you change hobbies because you can easily attach other accessories to this system like a bike rack, camp kitchen etc. and much more. It also has a swing away feature so you can still easily get into the back hatch without removing everything.
If you factor in the cost of adding a roof rack and cargo box/ski carrier you would be very close to the price of the above system. It's not going to be cheap either way but this is truly the best system for your needs and allows for a lot of expansion.
