I need to purchase a wiring kit for 2012 Toyota RAV4, 4wd, 4 cyl…which unit is recommended and show much can I tow with the vehicle? Moving from Ohio to San Diego in September. Two adult and 25lb dog…trying to understand capacity inside vehicle with hopefully towing a small trailer with furniture…

The best trailer wiring harness we have for your 2012 Toyota RAV4 is the Tekonsha part # 118412 which installs easily and has the most reliable converter box. Now the towing capacity looks to be between 1,500 and 2,000 lbs depending on how it's equipped so to find out for sure what your number is you'd need to contact Toyota with your VIN.

For trailer hitches my favorite options are the Ecohitches for your vehicle since only the hitch opening hangs below the rear bumper. If you have a spare that mounts under the vehicle you'd want the part # 306-X7174 or if you have the spare on the rear door you'd want the part # 306-X7152.
