Replacement Spindle/Axle Option For a 4,500LB Mobile Home Axle

Question:
A question I’m sure you have gotten before, but I can’t find info in the QandA section. I have an older mobile home axle 4500 lb. with 3” O.D. tubes with Dexter 8-222 drum hubs. A bad bearing proceeded to destroy the spindle. It does have the mounting plate for electric brakes, but isn’t critical as those haven’t worked in years rotted away. I don’t see any direct replacement spindle for my size using your spindle reference: Capacity 4500 Dim. A: 2.5” guessing since it’s a 3” tube Dim. B: 1.9385 Dim. C: 1.375 Dim. D: 1.25 Dim. E: 1” I’m assuming that the only option will be the #42, but want to get the one that would take the least amount of work between sleeving the tube side and machining down the inner bearing surface.

The #42 E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Flange # TRU37FR is going to be the best option for replacing your spindle on your mobile home axle. Do remember that mobile home axles were never designed for continuous use and are not as structurally strong as a Axle # e55GR. This particular axle has the same #42 spindle and a 89" hub face to hub face measurement. We do offer the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-174-5UC3 which has the 5 spoke utility mounting holes like the Dexter 8-222. You will need to replace the grease seal included with the 2.250" Seal # GS-2250DL to fit the #42 spindle.
You will be able to use the Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA for this hub assembly.
