Is Self-Tensioning Mechanism a Weak Point on Servo RS Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains
Updated 12/27/2022 | Published 12/25/2022 >
Question:
Have you folks experienced any failure of the self-tensioning servo mechanism? Is this thing going to freeze and be unable to disengage to remove the chains?

I checked the reviews for the pewag Servo RS Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains part # PWRS76 and there were no mentions of the self-tensioning mechanism failing. This isn't really a new design either as a lot of snow tire chains now have integrated self-tensioning mechanisms. It's really not an issue for passenger vehicles on-road. If you get into the larger trucks using them off-road that is where you'd want to steer away from self-tensioning or tightening cams but for everything else you'll be fine and should not have any concerns. The self-tensioning mechanism is really a life saver in regards to ease of use and install. These in particular also have a diagonal pattern which gives a smooth ride when compared to the ladder style and the plastic bumper will ensure you don't damage the wheels. It also comes with a handy carrying case so you don't lose them and they are easy to store.
I have attached the tire fits for these chains below as well.
