Replacement Hub and Drum Assemblies for 2002 Escort Boat Trailer

Question:

Hello, I just found out my trailer drums are mismatched, when I tried to install bearing buddy. One side fits the 1.98 fine, but the other is bigger, seems like 2.56”. My wheels are 5 bolts. My boat trailer is a 2002 Escort with 15” wheels, single axle. how do I know this fits the brakes size? I would like to replace both sides, and use my 1.98” bearing buddy, instead of having to maintain 2 sizes.

In order to determine the correct hub and drum replacement you will need to know what bearings your trailer is using. Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors like the # BB1980A-SS that fit a 1.98" hub bore are commonly found on 2,000-3,500 lb axles, so you can't use the hub bore to determine what you have. The best way to find what bearings you're using is to pull the bearings and look for a part number. You can also measure their inner diameter, or the spindle, with a digital caliper like # PTW80157.

Since you have trailer brakes, it is likely you have 3,500 lb axles that use a # L68149 inner and # L44649 outer bearing. If that is the case, you can use the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K. This has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and is compatible with 10" brake assemblies typically found on 3,500 lb axles like the # AKEBRK-35-SA.

@Myron the customer never replied back with that information. You will have to pull your hubs and check your bearings/measure to find what you have.
