Trailer Tire Speed Ratings and Overheating in Colder Climates

Question:
How are you supposed to run this tire when speed limits on interstates is 70 mph? Can you run these tires in winter in Minnesota? Does the cold cool tire enough to run at faster speeds? Or do I purchase 4 quality radial tires with spare? If so, What would you recommend Tire and Rim for Radial 205/65/10 Load range E? Thanks, I own a triton elite 22-101. What radial would u use with rim?? E load?? Thanks

The trailer tire industry has not upgraded the rating or construction of the tires to be used at higher towing speeds. Trailer tires are rated for up to 65 miles per hour. Some states have requirements for large commercial trucks, as well as personal vehicles pulling trailers to travel at slower speeds. Therefore, in some states the speed limits do exceed the recommended towing speeds for these tires.
You can use these tires during the cold winters in Minnesota. However, the heat build up in the tires that is caused from traveling at higher speeds would not be negated by the weather conditions in Minnesota, or in colder areas where you may be traveling.
Please also be aware that due to the construction of bias ply tires, especially in colder areas or during colder weather conditions, the ride may be a little rougher until the tires get warmed up.
Unfortunately, for the tire size that you specified the only tires that we currently have available is a bias ply constructed tire. An upgrade to a radial tire is a great idea, but we do not currently have that option available for you.
For the tire size, and load range that you indicated this tire is an excellent choice.
If you are looking for tire and rim replacements then I recommend either the Kenda # AM3H480 if you have 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, or the # AM3H460 if you have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern. We have had much better customer feedback on the steel wheels for these tires as opposed to the galvanized wheels.
