Hi, everyone. Aiden here with etrailer.com and today we're gonna be taking a look at these replacement safety chain hooks from Curt. It's gonna be a great alternative for your safety chains. If one is broken or you're just maybe looking to upgrade to something spring loaded these are gonna be really easy to use. Just pop them onto the safety chain loops. They'll snap in place like that.
And then we don't have to worry about any sort of accidental disconnection let's check 'em out. So this is a three eighths diameter hook. So be sure you get the right one for your chains and that will fit on your safety chain loops. I know we've had a few issues today with other sizes of hooks, not quite fitting as well on these loops. So just keep that in mind that spring loaded latch does have a lot of tension on it.
So it's gonna hold really well. And there's even a secondary latch right here for your actual chain so when you slide it on it's gonna be hard to take it back off, but still doable. If you need to. Everything's going to have a 2000 pound weight capacity and it comes in a kit of one. So if you need both, be sure to pick up two.
Now it is a steel construction with a zinc finish. That zinc finish is going to help it resist rust and corrosion. Eventually it will probably happen with it just being out in the elements over time but that finish is gonna help it last a lot longer. And getting these added to your chains whether you're replacing an old one or just adding them new is gonna be super simple. Let's check it out.
Now, the installation's gonna be pretty simple. We've got our chain here where the hook broke off and we can just pop the new hook on there. And now we've got the secondary latch here. That'll have to pull back to get that chain on. There's quite a bit of tension on there. So it might be a little bit hard to do by hand you kind of gotta get it with one hand while you slide the chain into there a little tough. A screwdriver or something to pry that end up might be helpful but if you can get it, there we go. Then it'll stay on pretty secure and we can hook it up to our safety chain loops crossing them over each other like, so, and then you're ready to hit the road. I purchased these spring loaded hooks after seeing them on a trailer, I thought they were a better device than the typical "S" hooks that I had been using. The quality appears very good, with a firm spring on the safety latch. I purchased the 3/8" 2000 lb rated hooks as my trailer has a gross weight of under 400 lbs. They are available in 3000 and 4000 lb ratings also. Cost and shipping for the product was very very competitive and fast delivery. I will be visiting etrailer for my trailer parts again and again.
These things are the cat’s backside! Our camper safety chains had the caribiner type hooks that you had to thread closed. Took forever... installing these saved me an easy 1/2 hour per camping trip! GREAT quality.
Use this as the connection point between the winch and bow on my boat trailer. Has held up great after a year of salt water use.
I've experienced no problems with these. I feel a lot better having a clip that closes vs. the simple S hook that comes on some trailers.
