Troubleshooting Fastway e2 Weight Distribution With Movement in L Brackets

Updated 10/14/2025 | Published 08/29/2022

Question:

I have the e2 weight dist hitch 6000#. My brackets attaching to the trailer frame continue to slide back after towing a day or two. More movement if you do a u turn. If I tighten more the brackets bend. Any solution as i am out on the road 3500 miles from home?

The bolts that hold the L brackets for the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Round - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW # FA94-00-0600 need to be torqued to a specific setting which you can find in your installation instructions (as well as the linked instructions on this page). If you haven't torqued them specifically then that would explain why things are slipping. You also need to be sure that the brackets are square with the trailer frame during the installation.

The instructions say that an improper installation or under tightening can cause the link plates to "walk" along the trailer frame so it sounds like you need to recheck your installation.

Once you have everything setup properly let me know if you're still having this issue and I can see if there is anything else that you can do.

My E2 setup is slightly more robust-, but the problem is the same. The bottom of the L bracket shifts backward. I have torqued the bolts correctly-replacing an L bracket after over-torquing, and the L brackets are a correct distance from the top of the tongue. But, when engaged, the round bar is not parallel to the ground. Does the L bracket need to be lowered one home down? The trailer rides level and there handles very well underway. Thank you

@PaulV Does the L bracket scoot back over time, or does it stay in the same position, with just the bottom part shifting back some when engaged? The arms of a weight distribution system don't necessarily need to be level for a correct setup; you're mainly looking for the right amount of tension so your truck and trailer are level. If you can adjust the L brackets so that the arms are level and the truck/trailer are level then that would be best-case scenario, but it's not crucial for the arms to be level.

Thanks so much Jon. The L bracket doesn’t scoot back-the bottom part gradually shifts back and then maintains its position. All the measurements for the truck are within spec-it’s a level truck and tow. Thank you for your advice.
