if the winch is in an enclosed metal cabinet will the wireless remote get the signal with the door shut?

Yes, the remote for the ComeUp UW-5000si Trailer Winch # CU645010 can still work if installed inside a metal cabinet and the doors are closed - our installer Kevin said he was able to get it to work like this in the attached installation video.
Keep in mind that the doors on the cabinet in the video aren't very thick so I'm not sure what the line would be drawn as far as thickness of the metal door and range of the wireless controller goes.
Worst case scenario is your door is too thick so you'll keep the door opened during operation when you can. When you can't all you have to do is remove the plate at the bottom right on the front of the winch and use the Wired Remote Control # CU880295 instead. You could drill a small hole in the cabinet for the cable to fit through and you can leave the remote outside the cabinet. Attached is a video of this for you to check out as well.
