Will A Sliding Hitch Or Pin Box Come Into Contact With The Tailgate On A Short Bed Truck

Question:

I have a 2022 chevy 2500 hd will the companion sliding hitch clear the tailgate? If the tailgate has to be let down when in slide position will the tailgate clear the camper?

The B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3775 is going to slide back 12" to provide more turning clearance and will sit 17" - 19" tall so it's not going to contact the tailgate.

There isn't one easy way to measure pin box to tailgate clearance though without really just having the items installed and actually testing them but we can get a decent idea of where the pin box will sit and measure back.

Basically, you'll want to measure up 17-19" from the center of your axle (where the kingpin is going to sit) and then measure back 12". The king pin sits the lowest on the pin box so you'll take the measurement from the king pin to the first bolt hole and use that as well as the angle of the turret to see if it's going to contact the tailgate. Like I said, this isn't easy or and exact science so you won't really know for sure until you test it out.
