Question:
I guess my question is, can I start and run the generator at the same time Im plugged into shore power? Ive had to replace the power unit in my trailer that has a built in generator Im also replacing the transfer switch with #PD5110010Q. I like to run my generator once a month to keep it in check. Do I have to unplug from shore power to do this? Thanks you have been very helpful with the issues Ive been having.

My recommendation is to simply unplug from the power pedestal if you wish to start up the generator for a maintenance run. It is the safest way to ensure that you do not overload your electrical system. Please ensure you follow the installation instructions for primary power source when installing the Progressive Dynamics Transfer Switch, # PD5110010Q. But yes, when generator power is applied there is a 20-45 second delay and then the relay activates transferring generator power to the panel. If shore power returns while the generator power is present nothing will happen. When the generator power is removed the relay will drop out and allow the shore side to supply power. This is designed that the generator overrides shore power but if you are doing a maintenance run of generator, I think safety dictates you simply drop the plug from the power pedestal when you start it up.
I have linked the installation instructions below.
