Where is the Tow Package Wiring Located on a 2001 GMC Sierra

Question:
I need to find the trailer light converter on my 2001 Sierra. I think it has blown the circuit for the right turn the only light that wont work on my trailer due to a shorted light on the trailer. Now no right turn will work on any trailer I tow. There is no flasher power at the trucks plug for the right turn. Truck tail light is fine. I need to find the converter unit to trouble shoot the light output. Is it a unit I can replace?

The first thing I would check is a tow package wiring fuse or relay on the truck. Use the owners manual and/or legend on the under hood fuse panel to find the locations of any fuses/relays related to the tow package wiring. All of the tow package wiring should terminate under the hood. Since the turn signal is not working at the truck side trailer connector and because you have the same problem on all trailers you tow a fuse or relay is the likely culprit.
I have also included some links on trailer wiring and testing vehicle side wiring that might help. Be sure to fix the short on the trailer before connecting it to the truck. Otherwise the problem will keep happening.
