Question:
What size socket

Expert Reply:
The socket size needed to install the Curt hitch ball # C40008 would be 1-13/16 inches. The torque required for tightening the nut is 450 ft lbs.
If you do not have a torque wrench rated up to 450 foot pounds in which case you'll never really measure it at 450. When tightening the ball you want to make sure you get the lock washer, so that it's completely flat.
One way to make it easier on you is to put the ball mount in your hitch receiver sideways so the hole is vertical. Then install the ball that way. So you can use something to hold the ball with one hand and torque the nut with the other.
