Question:
Need to replace my Shelby 5407B winch with a stronger and faster winch. I want it to hold 3000 lbs. the boat weighs 1900lbs and the motor probably another 1000 lbs. What do you recommend?

Expert Reply:
The discontinued Shelby 5407 is a single-speed, 1,700 lb hand winch, and we can get you a replacement with a higher capacity. The best option for that is a winch from Dutton-Lainson:
- Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14881
The # DL14881 is a 3,500 lb capacity, 2-speed winch with a manual hand brake. Going with a 3,500 lb capacity will give you some margin for error because the capacity is reduced as the line builds up, so I strongly recommend the 3,500 lb winch.
The other thing you will need is a cable, the Hand Winch Cable # DL24104.
