Question:
I am looking for a good inverter to use for extended boondocking. We want to minimize the need to have a generator and already have some solar installed but only use the 12 volt items from the battery. I want to be able to use the microwave some and maybe the electric coffee pot too.

I recommend the2,000 Watts - 12VDC Progressive Dynamics Pure Sine Wave Inverter w/ Transfer Switch, # PD64FR.This 2,000-Watt inverter uses pure sine wave technology so it is perfect for sensitive electronics. What I really like about this option is the integrated transfer switch that automatically changes from inverter to shore power when you hook up at the campground. This can generate 4,000 starting watts and 2,000 running watts so no issues with your coffee pot and microwave. Although, I would refrain from operating simultaneously.
This unit has everything, reverse polarity protection, overvoltage/under-voltage protection, and sensing for internal temperature. When the power demand is low, the fan will operate quietly.
For additional safety, installing a 200-amp fuse between the battery bank and the inverter is recommended and I suggest installing using at least # 2 gauge wire. The Installation Kit for Go Power Inverters, # 342GPDCKIT3 contains these items.
