Question:
Considering installing this unit in a cargo trailer along with a 30 amp cord to plug into a generator or shore power. Plan to run a roof AC and a couple outlets for a fridge and a coffee maker, as well as supply power to the 12v lighting already in the trailer. Will this unit be the appropriate choice? Also, do I need a battery in the system if Im unplugged from my tow vehicle?

The Progressive Dynamics 4100 Series RV Converter w/ Charge Wizard and AC/DC Distribution Panel # PD4135K will give you 4 branch circuits rated at 30 amps and one main to power your ac appliances/outlets. For the DC side you'll have 6 fuse ports rated at 30 amps and 1 rated at 40 amps for the main. Based on what you're trying to do this could be enough to power everything, but if you wanted to add in more you could swap to the # PD4045KA for a few extra DC fuse ports and 2 extra branch circuits.
Both of these systems are able to power the DC fuse board while running off of shore power so a battery isn't needed while connected. The connection between your tow vehicle and the trailer would not send any power to the power center. If you wanted to power the fridge while on the go it would need to be a 12v DC powered fridge and then you would have to have a trailer battery to power it. If it was a 110v AC powered fridge you'd still need a battery but would also need an adequately rated inverter like the # PD64FR, which would also require a subpanel in order to work.
