Will Lower Rated Spring Bars Help With a Wiggly 2021 Ford Ranger Towing Wolf Pup Camper

Updated 12/27/2021 | Published 12/26/2021

Question:

I bought a WOLF PUP camper with 420 dry tongue weight. The dealer installed 800 lb bars, the truck seemed very wiggly? The dealer would seem to jump around. Will going to 600 lb bars help?

When it comes to weight distribution, tongue weight is the most important factor. In this case, it doesn't sound like the spring bars need to be swapped out. Although I don't know the exact model of your camper, the tongue weight is going to be 10-15% of the loaded weight of your Wolf Pup. It will also include the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle.

The # FA94-02-0899 spring bars used on the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA94-00-0800 are going to be for a 400-800 lb tongue weight. Based on your dry tongue weight you are going to be in that range so that would be the correct system for you.

I'm not entirely sure what kind of wiggle you are experiencing, but you may want to try suspension enhancement to help out as well. Something like the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SS76MR would be a great choice. These will keep your truck level and also help to minimize sway.

I have attached some helpful articles on how to find your tongue weight and weight distribution that you can check out.
