Hi, I'm looking for a trailer hitch and cargo carrier for my 22' highlander xse so I can haul some tailgating stuff to games. What recommendations do you have? Thanks

For your 2022 Toyota Highlander I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C99FR. This hitch has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 500lbs to easily haul your coolers or grills on a cargo carrier. It has a simple bolt-on installation with all necessary hardware included. The gloss black powder coat finish over protective base coat offers a superior rust resistance for a long lifespan.

For the cargo carrier I recommend the 24x60 Reese Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - 500lbs # 63153. It has the following inside dimensions: 60" long x 24" wide x 5-1/2" deep and an optional light kit # 20174 if your cargo blocks the taillights of your Highlander.

To tow with your Highlander or use the optional light kit you'll need a 4-pole connector. For this I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # TK99FR. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the trim panel near the driver's side rear seat belt bracket. You will have to pull back the side trim panel to access this harness.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket like # 18144 with # 18140 is recommended to keep the connector secure.

For a great starter ball mount kit I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches - 7,500lbs # 989900. It has a 1-7/8" hitch and 2" hitch ball to allow you to tow multiple trailers. It has a 1" or 3" rise and a 2" or 4" drop to keep your trailer level while towing.
