The correct block heater for your 2012 Kia Rio 1.6L engine is the Kat's Heaters Custom Fit Engine Block Heater - Cartridge Style - 120V - 400 Watts # KH11812 and will install in the "RR" position of your engine. The steps for installing this block heater are as follows:

1. Locate the cartridge hole on the engine block.
2. Clean the cartridge hole of all debris, you can use compressed air.
3. Attach cord to the heater.
4. Install heater into hole. Rotate the clip on the cord to the proper position to secure the heater and cord to the engine block and heater.
5. Route the cord through the grill, using cable ties to prevent the cord from getting in contact with any hot or moving parts.

@Sébastien Yes using some silicone grease when installing a Kats heater is recommended to help prevent corrosion and help to transfer heat. It's highly recommended but it isn't a requirement.
