Benefits of a Heated Engine

Start your engine easier and warm your cab faster in cold weather with this cartridge-style engine block heater. Heating your engine coolant keeps it from thickening and freezing, resulting in more reliable start-ups and smoother operation altogether. It also lessens the workload and extends the life of your vehicle's battery. And because starting your engine when it's warm creates less condensation in the engine block than starting it when it's cold, your engine will get better initial fuel vaporization, which causes fewer emissions and less pollution.

Cartridge-Style Heater

This cartridge-style heater simply clips into the cavity of your engine block. There is no need to remove the core frost plug. The power cord on the heater is removable so that you won't need to buy a whole new heater if the cord gets damaged. The cord can be routed through your grille for easy access to a 120-volt outlet or extension cord. Make sure the heating element is fully submerged in the coolant before plugging it in.

I have not installed the block heater yet. I'm driving home to Alaska soon and I'll have my mechanic install it there. Required in Alaska for even for gas engines

The block heater was for my daughters Honda Odyssey that she was moving to Alaska. My mechanic in Fairbanks installed it for me. We had several -40 degree weeks this past winter and her Honda started without fail throughout the long Fairbanks winter. Her Odyssey is parked in an unheated carport.

I purchased 2 block heaters, 1 for my daughters Honda and one for my Chevrolet Colorado. Both were easy to install. This past winter in Fairbanks, Alaska, we had several weeks of -40 degree days and both vehicles had no trouble starting mornings.

2018 GMC Canyon
The GMC Canyon did not have a block heater, and I wanted one that was exactly like the OE heater. etrailer was able to provide the heater I needed, and especially in this part of the country starting a car at -20f without preheat is very hard on the engine. This works perfectly.
by:
The heater was easy to install, there was a indent on the engine block that the heater fit in and was held by a clip, routing the cord to the lower grill and holding away from moving parts with the tie wraps took some care as the cord was just long enough. My GMC Acadia spent the winter parked outside in Wyoming so the heater was good on those cold nights especially when I had to leave for work at 5 am, The apartment complex has plugs at every parking space so was very convenient, on very cold nights left it plugged in all night, not sure if it was designed for that but had no problems. Looking forward to another winter.
by:
80% perfect fit! The only thing missing is 90 degree angle for the power cord at the heater(like GM original) also the power cord is not long enough for 2017 Canyon!
Otherwise excellent for the price!

Took a minute to install, cost a fraction of the oem part, and it works like a dream. I live in Winnipeg Canada and things get real cold up here. When it reaches -35 a good block heater is a must and this us a good block heater.

The block heater and battery warmer worked excellent last winter! Looking forward to having them for the upcoming Montana winter:-)

Shipped twice without the clip attachment. You’d think after the first return somebody would check the product before shipping.
by:
The install was so easy it almost installs itself.
Find the hole on the back of the block, plug in the heater, snake the cord up and zip it in place.

So far it's held up to regular country road driving conditions and regular use.
Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that, even on a 65ºF day it still takes 2.5 hours to get my block close to operating temp. Even factoring the thermal mass of the engine, still I have plug-in appliances that pull 4x the wattage; I wonder if they could've goosed it a little so I don't have to turn it on ~3 hours earlier.

Toyota Tundra
I installed this engine block heater on a 2021 Toyota Tundra. The installation was fairly straight-forward as far as installing the actual heating element into the engine block. The challenging part was routing the electrical cord to the front of the truck. Mind you I had the truck elevated by tire ramps during the time of installation.

Installed this on my 2019 Toyota Tacoma. Haven’t really tested it out yet as I installed it before it got seriously cold. Installation was easy. Just follow etrailers super helpful video. I did have to file a slight flat on the heater to clear the bell housing overhang. Not a manufacturer issue on the heaters part. Just normal variance on Toyota’s end.

  • Where Does Kat's Heater Install on 2021 GMC Canyon with 3.6 Liter
The Kat's Heater part # KH11811 that you referenced installs in a cartridge hole on the side of the block. Because of that there is no coolant to drain or anything else. The cartridge hole you'll need to use is the one on the passenger side of the block all the way back. It wouldn't take more than a 1/2 hour to complete.

  • Block Heater that Fits 2023 Chevy Traverse with 3.6 liter
Hey Terry, we can confirm that the Kat's cartridge heater part # KH11811 does fit your 2023 Chevy Traverse. The cavity on the engine block to use is the RL position which is on the back side of the motor on the driver side closest to the driver side. This does not have an internal thermostat either but it won't over heat anything.

  • How to Test the Kats Heaters Custom Fit Engine Block Heaters Before Installation
The Kat's Heaters Custom Fit Engine Block Heater part # KH11811 should get hot as soon as it is plugged into a power source. However, the heater must first be completely submerged in a solution before receiving power therefore, I would first submerge the heating element in antifreeze, and then plug it into an outlet to see if it gets hot. If the heating element does not get hot then it will need to be replaced.
