Will Konig Self-Tensioning Tire Chains Fit 2018 Honda CR-V With 235/60-18 Tires
Updated 10/18/2021 | Published 10/15/2021 >
Question:
I have a 2018 Honda CRV Ex 2WD, tire size 235/60-18. My Honda manual indicates, and highly recommends SCC TC2212MM Radial Cables. But I see they do not meet S.A.E. Class S requirements which I am concerned about. My questions: 1. You CAN put tire chains on a 2018 Honda CRV Ex 2WD if the right type, size and installed correctly. 2. Is part # TH01594247, which was recommended by one of your customer service representatives, a good fit for my vehicle and is safe to use as they are chains as opposed to cables and they are Class S compatible. I am a little concerned about damage to my car. 3. I cant seem to find what wheel well clearance my vehicle has. Ive called Honda and they didnt know. Manual also indicates limited tire clearance so it needs either the one they recommend SCC TC2212MM cables which is not Class S, or the part # TH01594247 which is Class S. Can you clarify for me. I have never used tire chains on any of my cars before. I am doing a lot of research. I want something easy to install and durable but safe to use on my car. I appreciate your assistance.

Good questions, and it is peculiar to me that Honda would recommend a specific manufacturer and model, particularly since they are cables. Because (and pardon my bluntness) snow cables stink. They are mostly a one-time use that are something to have "just in case."
So, to answer your questions, you can put tire chains on your 2018 Honda CR-V with 235/60-18 tires, and an excellent choice are the Konig chains you referenced:
- Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # TH01594247
These are Class-S compatible, have D-shaped links which are good for traction on either snow or ice, and are made from manganese nickel alloy steel so they are highly durable and resist corrosion. They are also much easier to put on than other tire chains (or cables) because they are self-tensioning, which means they tighten when you start driving off after putting them on.
As far as the specific measurement of wheel well clearance, that's not a number we have, but we did install the Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # TH01594247 on a 2018 Honda CR-V, and I have linked that install video for you below if you'd like to take a look.
