Will SumoSprings Work On a 2020 Ford F-150 with Truck Bed Camper
Published 09/22/2021 >
Question:
Hello, Ive installed the Sumo Springs SSR-117-47 without the 1 inch spacer on my Ford F-150 XLT 2020 6.5 foot length bed with max tow package. I have a slide-in camper in the back that weighs around 1,500 pounds. The Sumo springs have improved my ride a lot but I still notice porpoising or bouncing of the rear that rocks the whole truck front to back when going over bumps. This occurs at both low and high speeds. With the truck loaded with the slide in camper in the back I see that the Sumo Springs are compressed about half way and the overload spring is engaged. My question is, would adding the 1 inch spacer help with the bouncing or are the Sumosprings already engaged enough to not warrant the spacers? Would it help to upgrade to a set of spring with a higher weight capacity? Is there a different solution altogether that might work? Thank you!

Sumosprings are great for occasional towing and hauling as they don't decrease ride quality too much. That said, they really aren't ideal for constant loads like a truck bed camper as they don't engage right away and they are softer than other options so they don't provide as much support. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System part # TFRTT1504E are actually designed for truck bed campers and will suite you much better. They will however not ride as soft as the Sumosprings but the truck has too much sag now which is affecting braking and stability. You'll have to sacrifice some ride quality for safety.
