Do I need a special accessory to use this bike rack with a womens bike?

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame tube that goes straight across (like a typical mens bike does) I recommend using adapter bar # TH982XT. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level. I use adapters similar to this and without them my wifes bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my sons bike at all. I have included a video link showing how the adapter works.

The use of the adapter bar is not required unless the bike has a step-through frame or a unique design that would not fit otherwise.

The Thule Apex swinging bike rack # TH9027XT is my top choice for a swinging rack. I think you will be happy with its design and performance. I have linked a video review of this rack for you.
