Recommended Electric Over Hydraulic Braking System For Venture Boat Trailer With Surge Brake System

Question:
If I install the Titan electric over hydralic brake system on my tandem axle Venture boat trailer with the surge brake system, can I remove the surge brake unit from the front of my boat trailer? I ask because I would like to remove the existing surge unit and install a regular coupler to the front of the trailer. The surge brake unit makes the ball hitch connection a few inches higher than a coupler on the end of the trailer. Result of the surge brake unit removal would be that I dont have to have my trailer hitch ball so high on my truck hitch. Also, would addition of the Titan unit eliminate the disc brake drag and heat that I currently experience if the trailer is a bit low in the front when towing?

Yes, you can remove your current Surge Brake Actuator and install a standard coupler like the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # 12564 and install the Titan BrakeRite I Plug and Play Electric-Hydraulic Actuator Kit # T4813102 to provide faster and safer braking for your Venture boat trailer.
The Titan BrakeRite will require you to install a brake controller to operate. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90195 as it was designed for Electric over Hydraulic brakes and comes with a customizable LCD display, storable settings, 3 boost levels, battery protection and continuous diagnostics. Depending on the vehicle you're towing with there are custom wiring harnesses available for this brake controller to make installation simple.
The real-time response from an EOH braking system will help prevent the dragging you're experiencing as well. You most likely have a worn out shock that isn't responding correctly thus causing the drag and heat. With this new system you won't be relying on the shock to activate your brakes
