Correct Tire Load Range for Flagstaff Pop Up Tent Trailer

Updated 07/28/2021 | Published 07/26/2021

Question:

I just acquired a 2005 Flagstaff Pop up. Long story short. Tires looked under inflated, had 45 psi, needed 50 psi for max load. Went to 50psi, looked the same. Uncle had them replaced 4 years ago but they have mostly sat. 3 hour trip home on interstate, they were very, very warm. Same temp from axle to wheel to tire. In drive now, guy coming to check electronic brakes and bearings. He is gonna repair and replace what it needs. The sticker says GVWR is 2990 with no more than 600 payload. The sticker for tires is for load rating C and only 62 mph. . upgrade wheels and tires to carry weight and up speed rating. The weight and tire recommendation don’t add up. My wife and I will want to use this for long trips across the country. Could you please give advice and parts?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The 175/80-13 LRC tires are indeed correct for a Flagstaff Pop Up Tent Trailer. In most cases, the combined load capacity of the tires won't equal or exceed the weight of the trailer fully loaded (GVWR). This is because there will always be between 10-15% of the trailer's weight placed on the vehicle at any given time through the tongue.

For replacement, I recommend the Provider ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire part # TTWTRTM1758013C which offers up to an 81-mph speed rating.
