Question:
What is best way to extend this hitch? My trailers dry weight is 8329lbs. Hitch weight is1165lbs. Need a longer shank or extender?

Expert Reply:
In most cases, you wouldn't want to use an extender for weight distribution, as using an extender will reduce the capacity of the hitch by 50%.
I'd recommend going with a longer shank. The shank provided with the # BXW1503 SwayPro has a 9 inch length, measured from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the adjustment holes where the weight distribution head mounts.
The longest shank we offer has a total length of 14 inches, the Curt # C17122. The adjustment holes for the weight distribution head are set at the industry standard 1-1/4 inches apart. This shank is 5 inches longer than the one you have, and offers a 1500 lb TW capacity, so it'll work just fine for the trailer you describe.
I've linked to a product video featuring the Curt # C17122 Weight Distribution Shank.
