Will a 700 lbs Pro Series Weight-Distribution System Work With 1,000 lbs Tongue Weight
Updated 07/07/2021 | Published 07/04/2021 >
Question:
I have a 2017 Grand Design 2800bh. I have been reading that the tongue weight loaded can be roughly 1000bls. I have the pro series distribution hitch with 700lbs bars with sway control. Are the bars not the correct ones with tongue weight I have?

Expert Reply:
The most important factor in a weight-distribution system is the tongue weight. You are right, this weight distribution system is not the correct one and will be virtually useless. You will already be over the tongue weight by several hundred pounds without considering the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle which is also added in to the tongue weight rating.
I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs TW # FA92-00-1200 for your 2017 Grand Design Imagine 2800BH. The tongue weight on this system is 800-1,200 lbs so that should land you in the middle which is what you want. This also has sway control like your existing hitch and clamp-on brackets so no drilling is required.
