Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller Troubleshooting Light Not Changing From Blue To Red
Updated 06/17/2021 | Published 06/16/2021 >
Question:
I had the Ford dealer install a Tow - Pro brake controller. The one where the light is blue when the wire harness is plugged in and turns red when the brakes are applied. When I was pulling the trailer this past weekend, the red light did not come on when I applied the brakes. Did I have trailer brakes at this point?

With the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR in the proportional mode the light on the controller will not always light a full red light depending on what sensitivity the controller is set. The inertia sensor is looking at the settings for the controller and feeling the amount of inertia in the vehicle from the brake activation. The color will change from blue to red in different levels and may appear purple as it intensifies before becoming red.
I have linked a video below that will show how the brakes activate and light changes depending on the settings and braking force applied.
If the blue light is constant that informs you that the controller senses that a trailer is connected. If it is fading in and out blue the controlled does not detect the trailer and is in sleep mode. If the light does not change to a different color than blue it is telling you that no braking force is being applied to the trailer.
