Disc Brake Compatible Replacement for Tie Down Model 660 Surge Brake Actuator
Published 06/01/2021 >
Question:
Hello I have a boat trailer with a tie down 660 brake actuator on it. My trailer currently has drum brakes and I am getting ready to change to disc brakes. I see on my 660 it has a sticker that says not disc brake ready what does that mean? I thought surge brakes are surge brakes no matter if they are drum or disc.

In regards to surge brakes, disc brakes require a much higher psi than drum brakes for proper operation therefore the two types of brake actuators (disc/drum) are not cross-compatible. The Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator part # DM62VR would be a great disc brake compatible replacement for a Tie Down Model 660. It has an electric lockout which you can use to prevent the brakes from locking up while in reverse but it does not have to be hooked up.
