How Tight Should Wedge Be On Lippert Turning Point Pin Box to Hitch Jaw
Updated 04/28/2021 | Published 04/26/2021 >
Question:
Using this wedge with a Curt A16 hitch and a lippert turning point pin box. How tight should the wedge be into the Curt yoke? I always seem to have a little bit of a gap between the wedge and the yoke on one side or the other. Maybe 1/8inch to 3/16. Enough that I can see this connection pivot slightly when driving down the road. If I try to adjust the wedge any tighterfoot into the yoke, then Im unable to get the hitch to latch onto the kingpin when attempting to hitch up. So my question is, how much slopfoot is acceptable between wedge and hitch yoke? Also, I assume that you shouldnt use a teflon disk with this setup, even if you trim it to fit around the wedge. Looks to me like you lose about 1/4inch of contact between the wedge and the hitch yoke.

Helpful Expert Reply:
3/16 of an inch is a solid amount of gap that's not too lose and not too tight. Basically you wanted as tight as you can get without causing it to become difficult to connect or disconnect so what you are doing now seems to be correct from what I am reading.
