Installation of Tekonsha 118796 Wiring Harness on 2020 Infiniti QX50

Updated 10/03/2024 | Published 01/04/2021

Question:

I have a 2020 Infiniti QX50 AWD Essential sub model. your website shows a Tekonsha 118796 as the appropriate wiring harness... My tail lights are completely sealed off from the undercarriage and the inside of the vehicle...the only way it see it possible to install this kit is to either drill holes in my car or cut the wiring harness wires, run them inside, splice back together and then drill another hole for the 4-wire plug to exit to the receiver and most like cut and splice those wires also. Do you have any suggestions for another way to install without cutting and/or drilling? HELP!

The installation of the Tekonsha # 118796 does require the removal of the tail lights from the vehicle but it won't require any cutting into the wires; once that has been completed you can access the rear of the lights where the plugs can be teed into. You will need to open the tail gate and access the bolts that will allow you to remove the tail light assembly.

I've linked a copy of the installation instructions for you to check out that does a pretty good job of showing how this can be completed.

I'm trying to install the Tekonsha 118796 Wiring Harness on 2020 Infiniti QX50 but I need some help or tips how to remove the tail light after loosing the two M10 bolts. I can pull the tail light on the end side but there is no point from where I can pull it from the other side as you need to pull away from vehicle at the same time without damaging or breaking the pins. Thanks

@Erlir Here's a youtube video that shows how it comes out. It sounds like you are on the right track but just need to finesse the housing a little more to get the pins to fully release. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM52aq1SNWc
