What is the Lifespan of the 2-Wire RV Propane Gas Detector

Question:

When does the 5 year lifespan begin? Date of manufacture or date it is first connected to a power source? The alarm shows a “Replace By" date but the owner's manual indicates it's 5 years of powered operation.

I reached out to the manufacturer on this and they mentioned that they are required by law to print a date on these units, but they informed me that the 5 year lifespan of the # RS44FR begins when it's connected to the power source.

Additionally, this information was provided-"We give an "End-of-Life" signal after 5 years of operation, so the alarm will continue to function normally for at least 5 years after installation."

I can see why this would be confusing, and so do they; so hopefully this clears up any confusion.
