We have a couple of options for you including the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller part # RED24FR.
The easiest way to get brake power to your trailer is to use the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180. If you currently have a 7-way connector this will plug directly in and pair with your phone for use with your trailer.
If you do not have a 7-way and just a standard 4-way flat connector with your tow package add the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation part # ETBC7L to add a 12 volt powered 7-way to plug into. This will also plug into your factory 4-way flat connector.
To use the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller part # RED24FR on your CX-9 it is a little more involved. You will be running an additional brake power wire which needs to go into the cabin of the Mazda through the firewall typically. For this we have the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7. This will also plug into your factory 4-way flat connector.
Using the No-Drill Mount Bracket part # 18136 will give you a great attachment point for the 7-way connector should you have to add it.
I have linked videos for each of these kits and both controllers for you to check out.
