Troubleshooting Brake Controller Installation on 1998 Land Rover Discovery 1
Updated 08/03/2020 | Published 07/30/2020 >
Question:
On my 1998 Land Rover Discovery 1 I thought I had successfully installed my Hayes Endeavor Brake Controller Properly. I have been having issues with the lights. When brakes, indicators, and running lights are all engaged, the brake/running lights on the trailer blink with the indicators. However, when troubleshooting I found that when I manually override the brake controller to full power, the blinking stops and everything seems to function properly. I have the red wire from the back of the brake controller wired through a fuse then connected to both the vehicles brake light wire and the brake light wire for the trailer plug. When the brake controller is set at 25 it only sends 25 voltage down the line, so will this affect the functionality of the brake lights ONLY when the tail and indicators are engaged? Or any other answers would be most appreciated!!! Running/Brake Lights Blinking with Indicators Except when Brake Controller at Full Power

The issue you are finding is likely due to the way you have your brake controller wired. The brake light switch is the only thing that should be connected to that red wire. The brake light wire for the trailer connection may be back-feeding into the controller the way you have it wired.
I've linked a help article to properly installing a brake controller and any changes from the diagram are not recommended as they can impact correct functioning.
