Question:
I bought a used 2015 GMC 2500 6.6L Duramax with the 2.5 inch receiver. My friend walked around the back of the truck looked at the receiver and said check all your trailer safety chains to see if they fit. I have 3 different trailers and none of the safety chain hooks fit. I also borrow other trailers on occasion and am trying to find a legal way to connect the safety chains without replacing all the hooks but will if I have too. I have searched the internet and talked to friends in the same situation and have not been able to find a legal way to fix the truck. If I need to change out the hooks which ones would you recommend as most of the stuff I have read says its basically a trial and error effort as each manufactures hooks have slightly different designs?

That is becoming a problem with more and more trucks these days. Some folks like to add the Blue Ox 1/2" Quick Link for Safety Chains part # BX229-0512 to the factory connection point to attach the safety chains to or you can add new hooks to the trailers like the Buyers Products 3/8" x 35" Class 4 Trailer Safety Chain w/ 1 Clevis Hook part # 337BSC3835 which allows you to connect to the factory connection points.
For trailers under 10k the first option works once you get over it is best to replace the chains.
