Hello eTrailer, Im curious.. I have a DEMCO Actuator #DM72VR on my boat trailer and Im wondering if I can use Dexter or Titan free backing hydraulic drum brakes 10inch x 2 1/2inch with this DEMCO actuator. Will the brake lines connect from this actuator to different brand name free backing hydraulic drum brakes or do I have to order DEMCO brakes only? The Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator for Drum Brakes # DM72VR has a brake line fitting on the rear of the master cylinder that will accept the standard 3/16 inch size brake line. The Dexter or Titan brand brake assemblies will work with this Demco actuator cause they are designed to work with the standard 3/16 inch size brake lines.
Using the free-backing brakes on your trailer is a good idea since this actuator does not include a reverse lockout. The free-backing brakes will allow you to drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer brakes.
