How To Install MaxxFan Dome Roof Vent On Thin Metal Roof

Question:

Hello, I am thinking of installing this fan on a basic e-150 cargo van roof that is located in South Florida to help keep it cool when parked. The roof is just sheetmetal, smaller than 1in. Will this still mount? The roof has corrugations with flat areas about 7.5 inches wide. How large is the needed hole? Thank you,

The MaxxFan Dome Roof Vent part # MA00-03812W will work just fine on passenger vehicle with thin metal roof as many others have done so as well. That said, you will need to add some material like plywood between the roof and fan to get the required 1" of thickness to mount. In regards to cutout size, this will be 6-1/2".

What solar kit do you recommend connecting this with? I am only worried about running it in the day time or when the sun is out when my cargo trailer is parked.

The MaxxFan Dome Roof Vent # MA00-03812W draws 2 Amps on the 12V system which translates over to 24 Watts. This means you need something rated for at least 24 Watts and for that I recommend the Go Power Kit # GP64ZR which is rated for 30 Watts. Please remember that you also need to use a battery to connect the solar panel kit to as well as the vent.
