Expert Reply:
The camera on the trailer does need to be wired to a power source. Typically, the camera will draw power from the trailer's running lamp circuit so all you'll need to to to activate the camera system is to turn on the monitor and the headlights or running lights. It could also be installed to the reversed light circuit so it only comes on when the tow vehicle is shifted into reverse. The camera transmits wirelessly to the monitor.
