Question:
Is this bike carrier safe for bikes with carbon fiber frames?

Expert Reply:
The Hollywood Racks Destination 2 Bike Platform part # HLY94FR does hold the bikes by the frames which we do not normally recommend for carbon fiber bike frames to avoid scratches or damage to the frame. However, the Hollywood Racks platform rack features padded frame cradles that hold the frame in place to avoid scratching so it is a possibility for your carbon fiber frame if you are not concerned with frame contact.
If you prefer a bike rack that only holds the bikes by the wheels (no frame contact) I recommend the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches # SH22G which is a 32 lb wheel mount option with zero frame contact. The bike rack is lighter compared to most of your platform racks but is not as light as the Hollywood Racks bike rack at 20 lbs so keep that in mind. The Kuat also tilts for rear cargo access and folds up when not in use. This is the most cost effective option that is a zero frame contact carrier. It comes with both a hitch and bike lock so you won't need to buy those separately.
